Biography

Mysterious and reclusive, Professor Coldgaze protects his personal life and background with an unyielding veil of secrecy, a cloak of total cover-up. Rumor and legend cluster around him, spinning tales of yesteryear's adventures in the frontier days of Quel'thalas. In these enticing theories, however, hardened reality and official recognition of his being stubbornly elude our grasp.Born as Arypus of the House Falor'dal, his history is as complex as the spells he once shattered with ardor and magical ability against foes. His history is ingrained in the fabric of the kingdom, with over three thousand years of background from the Amani War against the Amani Empire. His existence had a change during the Fall, though. Showing absolute allegiance, Arypus abdicated from all titles and wealth, leaving it all to his country as a show of unselfish dedication. Sadly, this act went by largely unnoticed by the general public, and he slipped back into the background once the Sunwell was put back in its proper place again. He resurfaced later as one of the members of the Reliquary, putting his knowledge in the oldest tongues and the past to guide a revolutionary research team to Pandaria. Although climbing to the institute, Arypus could never have the desire to retire, ultimately passing on leadership to his former protégé, only to take back the seat of command in the time of the Dragonscale Expedition.Although he was of mature age, the study of the Arcane's secrets by Arypus was only five centuries ago. By the intense practicing of the breaking of spells, he refined his expertise in arcane finesse and proceeded without issue to branch out in the magical practices of abjuration, transmutation, and conjuring spells. A stable foundation in the study of the breaking, foiling, and deflection of spells, he expanded upon it the study of these arcane disciplines. His intense education as a soldier to this day, with Arypus constantly practicing his skills with periodic training sessions, he once was the Headmaster of the Reliquary Institute, with absolute hand in reigning and brotherly fellowship among members until his authority had been usurped by force. Unperturbed, he moves in the shadows, masterminding the rise of the Night Shift, a shadow society built to bring down the established power monopoly that he believes to be unfair, gathering like-minded souls to the cause that he believes in.

Battleforged Destiny

A veteran spellbreaker and former commander of the Royal Guard of Quel’Thalas, Arypus is renowned for his extensive military service and tactical acumen. Though retired from formal command, his blades are far from dull. His discipline, vigilance, and mastery of anti-magic remain as sharp as ever.Throughout the decades, Arypus fought in countless battles and led troops under various banners, most recently during the Fourth War. Now, he lives with the weight of his experience; gruff, exacting, and not easily impressed. If your character shares military ties,
Thalasian allegiance, or a history on the front lines, they may recognize him, or know better than to waste his time. Recognition is welcome; warmth is not guaranteed.

Fallen Lineage

Arypus is a fallen lord. Once the head of House Falor’dal, an ancient bloodline tracing back to the founding of Quel’Thalas and even further to the Highborne of old, he bears the unmistakable mark of that lineage in both bearing and blood. Towering and broad-shouldered, he stands far taller than most of his kin, his physique more reminiscent of kaldorei or highborne ancestry than the slender frame typical of modern sin’dorei. This ancestral stature, passed down through generations, sets him apart as a living relic of a bygone age. When House Falor’dal perished during the Fall, Arypus relinquished his name and noble titles. He donated his estates and wealth to the people of Quel’Thalas and abandoned the trappings of his status. In their place, he forged a new identity as Arypus Coldgaze, a man of discipline, scholarship, and service. His quiet patriotism and generous deeds are known to some, particularly among the elder nobility and those who recall the sacrifices made without fanfare.

Radical Vision

Once a revered professor, Arypus Coldgaze devoted centuries to the study of ancient languages, the recovery of lost histories, and the mentorship of generations. As the founder of the Reliquary Institute, he helped shape the intellectual heart of Quel’Thalas. Now, he oversees the Night Shift, a clandestine circle of thinkers, exiles, and dissenters united not by loyalty to crown or council, but by a shared rejection of their tyranny. Cast out by the very systems he once served, Arypus no longer places faith in institutions to heal the world. Instead, he seeks to outmaneuver them, from the shadows. The night is his refuge. And within it, he builds a future for those the daylight has forsaken.

Author's Note

I focus on long-term, story-driven roleplay built through collaboration, steady worldbuilding, and meaningful character development. I enjoy layered narratives (adventure, intrigue, atmospheric moments, and the occasional challenge) woven together with intent. I'm comfortable writing both in-game (short to medium, pace-conscious emotes) and on Discord (medium to longer posts when scenes call for it).A few boundaries I’d like to highlight before any RP interaction:
• I value mutual trust, clear communication, and genuine collaborative respect.
• I expect private interactions (both IC and OOC) to remain private and not be shared without consent.
• I write within canon only — I don’t engage with non-canon or alternate-universe settings.
• My characters are my own. Please don't use them without my knowledge or consent, including in artwork.
• If you’d like to gift me something, please keep it tasteful and respectful.
